Pettiford’s last-second layup saves Kansas No. 3 in the Bahamas

PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas — Bobby Pettiford Jr. pulled off a twisted reverse layup after a loose rebound with 0.2 seconds left in overtime to give No. 3 Kansas a 69-68 win over Wisconsin on Thursday in a Battle 4 Atlantis semifinals to bring.

Pettiford’s layup marked his only points of the game, capping a thrill that saw Wisconsin recover from 15 down early in the second half.

Jalen Wilson scored 29 points and had 14 rebounds for the reigning national champion Jayhawks (6-0), and Kevin McCullar Jr. had 18 points and nine rebounds — and a 3 to force overtime.

Tyler Wahl led the Badgers (4-1) with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Most of his points came after halftime in an at times one-man comeback, including a rotary drive against a falling Wilson for a layup and a 68-67 lead by 21 seconds.

Kansas meets No. 22 Tennessee in Friday’s tournament title game.

PORTLAND, Ore. — Pete Nance scored 28 points, Caleb Love added 23 and North Carolina survived an unexpected test from Portland in the opening round of the Phil Knight Invitational.

Nance picked up the doldrums after halftime with 20 points and achieved his career leading scorer last season while playing for Northwestern.

Moses Wood led Portland (4-3) by 21 points.

The Tar Heels take on Iowa State in a semifinal game on Friday. Portland meets Villanova in a consolation game.
