Since establishing my own office in Mexico in September 2021, enthusiasm for OWLs multi-award-winning flagship brand Miraculous – Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir continues to increase in the region. In response, ZAG is hosting its first Brand Summit on November 17th at the Teatro Centenario Coyoacan in Mexico City. In addition to Miraculous, ZAG will present the latest series, spirit poweran original comedy-action series for kids and families about high school teens turned superheroes defending their town from the hideous ghouls that haunt them and the animated feature film melody, directed by Jeremy Zag and starring singer-songwriter-actress Katy Perry. The announcement was made by Angela Cortez, Vice President, Licensing, Latin America.
At the Paris themed event, ZAG announces new partners for Wonder, including Gatos Producciones, Revlon and Grupo Danhos, and other upcoming initiatives for the hit brand. The event will be overseen alongside Cortez by ZAG’s Betsabe Luna Gonzalez, who serves as Director of Retail and Licensing for Mexico and Central America, along with Category Manager Rosalba Flores. The Latin America leadership team reports to Julian Zag, executive vice president, global operations and head of consumer products.
Leading live tour operator Gatos Producciones (Cats) has signed on as a partner to develop and produce a live-action music show bringing to life more than thirty characters from the series, including Marinette, Adrien, Chloe, Sabrina and Alya . Leading Mexican real estate developer Grupo Danhos is hosting two Miraculous Christmas tree lighting weekend events with a Miraculous Pocket Show preview.
In October, Wonder Clothing licensee Carnaval exclusively launched its new product lines with department store chain Liverpool in over 70 outlets Wonder Exhibitions in 21 stores across the country from December 15th to 30th; and footwear licensee Yuyin launched their new products in hundreds of Coppel stores, with the retailer reporting a 49% sell-through in the first few weeks after launch.
Rising multinational cosmetics, skincare, perfumes and personal care company Revlon has also formed a second marketing alliance with the brand, collaborating with Expo TNT, the premier Japanese manga and anime show in Mexico. Cosplayers are given makeup kits to create their favorite Wonder akumatized character for a sponsored Instagram event where winners receive prizes such as convention passes, t-shirts, and Miraculous dolls.
In August, ZAG, with leading licensee Fotorama, organized a major back-to-school event for backpacks and other school products at over 1200 points of sale at several regional retailers with solid product sales; and carbonated beverage company ICEE ran a cup collection campaign with over 200,000 cups.
Wonder has a 91.67% brand awareness in Mexico for girls aged 7 to 9 due to the robust content available across major platforms and fans associate with the series values of love, courage, humility, kindness, faith, perseverance and Loyalties reflected in every episode. Wonder airs daily in Mexico on Televisa, Disney Channel and Disney+. The first three seasons of the series will also stream on Netflix. Miraculous Season 5 will premiere in Mexico in 2023 along with the $100+ million animated feature Miraculous Ladybug & Cat Noir: The Movie.
ZAG is expanding its portfolio and presenting itself at the Summit spirit power, which premiered in Latin America on Discovery Kids in December 2021 and received top ratings among kids ages 4-8 in Mexico. Toys from ZAG Play and Playmates will launch in the region in 2023 and will include action figures of the main heroes and a collection of Boo Capsules that will play with the ghost collectivity. ZAG is looking for partners in key categories including apparel, back to school, publishing and more!
The animated feature is currently in pre-production melody is directed by Jeremy Zag, and Katy Perry will co-write and perform the songs for the film.
