Sterling Anderson Jr., Detroit Martin Luther King
Junior running back and wide receiver Sterling Anderson Jr. had a career accomplishment when he helped Detroit King defeat Mason (52-17) to advance to the Division 3 league championship game. Anderson Jr. finished the game with a total of six touchdowns en route to a Saturday win.
Jace Simerson, Goodrich High School
Senior running back Jace Simerson had a great performance for Goodrich in his 51-26 win over Riverview to lead them to their first-ever state championship appearance. Simerson finished the game with 237 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns for the Martians.
Jaxson Engelberg, Caledonia High School
Junior defensive and offensive tackle Jaxson Engelberg put in a great performance for Caledonia, helping them to a 21-0 win over Clarkston. Engelberg finished the game with four pancake blocks on the offensive side of the ball while amassing a total of six tackles and a huge fourth sack to help Caledonia climb to the Division 1 State Championship.
Bryce Underwood, Belleville High School
Sophomore quarterback Bryce Underwood had a tremendous performance that loomed big for Belleville in the 29-28 overtime win over Cass Tech. Underwood finished the game with two rushing touchdowns, one of which was the touchdown that put Belleville within a point of Cass Tech in overtime, followed by a two-point conversion run to win the game for the Tigers and put them in the Division to bring 1 state championship game.
M’Khi Guy, Muskegon High School
Junior quarterback M’Khi Guy put on a strong performance, outplaying Muskegon in the 49-21 State semifinals win over DeWitt. Guy finished the game with six rushing touchdowns to lead Muskegon back to the Division 3 championship game.
Jameel Croft Jr., Detroit Martin Luther King
Senior cornerback and wide receiver Jameel Croft Jr. made the difference with his performance for Detroit King on Saturday. Croft finished the game with two big interceptions on the defensive side of the ball while clinching a touchdown reception on the offensive side to help King in a 52-17 win over Mason.
Ryan Ross, De La Salle High School
Junior offensive guard Ryan Ross showed his physicality as he finished with three pancake blocks to help De La Salle in a 43-15 win over Birmingham Groves to advance to the state championship.
Connor Wolf, Grand Rapids Catholic Headquarters
Junior quarterback Connor Wolf put on a great performance for Grand Rapids Catholic Central despite losing 28-21 to Gladwin. Wolf finished the game with 18 of his 26 passes for 168 passing yards and two passing touchdowns.
Cavanaugh Diton, Clarkston High School
Senior linebacker Cavanaugh Diton had a great performance for Clarkston in the 21-0 loss to Caledonia. Diton finished the game with 12 total tackles, two tackles for loss and a forced fumble.
Corey Sadler Jr., Cass Tech High School
Freshman wide receiver and safety Corey Sadler Jr. had a great performance in Cass Tech’s 29-28 overtime loss to Belleville on Friday night. Sadler finished the game with an interception while also scoring a touchdown.
Kaleb Parrish, Mason High School
Senior wide receiver Kaleb Parrish came on for Mason in Saturday’s 52-17 loss to the Detroit King. Parrish finished the game with two big touchdown receptions and a blocked punt in the loss.
Isabelle Busignani, Marian High School
Sophomore winger Isabelle Busignani put on a great performance for Marian in the state semifinals, which she won 3-2 over Clarkston. Busignani finished the game with 26 kills, two blocks total and 12 digs.
Navea Gauthier, Shelby High School
Sophomore Navea Gauthier put on an absolutely dominant performance for Shelby in their 3-2 loss to Kalamazoo Christian. Gauthier finished the match with 51 kills, three serving aces, a total block, and 20 digs.
Marie Laurio, Saline High School
Sophomore Marie Laurio had a great performance for Saline despite the 3-2 loss to Northville. Laurio finished the match with 22 kills, four aces serves, two total blocks, and 19 digs.
Carissa Musta, Cadillac High School
Junior middle hitter Carissa Musta performed well for Cadillac in a 3-1 win over West Catholic. Musta finished the match with 15 kills, eight blocks, and three digs.
