Penn State Football | Week 13 bowl projections for the Nittany Lions | Sports

STATE COLLEGE — Penn State’s win over Rutgers on Saturday puts the Nittany Lions just one win away from securing a 10-win regular season. Penn State will have an opportunity to make that happen this weekend during their regular season finale against Michigan State.

The College Football Playoff Committee on Tuesday ranked the Nittany Lions 11th for the second straight year and placed Penn State at the top of the top 10.

Here are some Week 13 bowl projections for Penn State:

Sports Illustrated (Richard Johnson) Orange Bowl vs. Clemson, Miami Gardens, Florida, December 30 (New Year’s Six): Penn State fans hoping for a New Year’s Eve Six Bowl spot can take solace in Johnson’s projection of the Nittany Lions en route to South Florida.

Penn State has not played in the Orange Bowl since 2006, when it earned a 26-23 win over Florida State in triple overtime. The Nittany Lions are 4-1 in Orange Bowl competitions.

Clemson is 10-1 this season and has secured a spot as Atlantic’s representative in the upcoming ACC championship game. The Tigers are 1-0 all-time against Penn State, with their only win (35-10) at the 1988 Citrus Bowl.

CBS Sports (Jerry Palm) Citrus Bowl vs. Mississippi, Orlando, Fla., Jan. 2: Palm also had a matchup between Penn State and Mississippi in the Citrus Bowl last week. He expects Ohio State to win the Big Ten and represent the conference in the college football playoffs.

Of course, that would mean he believes the Buckeyes will beat Michigan in this week’s competition in Columbus. A loss for the Wolverines would most likely send them to the Rose Bowl.

Mississippi went 8-3 into the matchup against Mississippi State on Thursday with losses to Alabama, Louisiana State and Arkansas. A meeting between Penn State and Ole Miss would mark the first between the two programs.

Yahoo! Sports Citrus Bowl vs. Louisiana State: Yahoo! Sport penciled in Penn State vs. Ole Miss in the Citrus Bowl last week. This week, the outlet moved Ole Miss down the pecking order to the ReliaQuest Bowl, formerly known as the Outback Bowl.

Louisiana State peaks with first-year coach Brian Kelly. The Tigers won against Alabama and Mississippi this year.

Louisiana State will play Georgia in the SEC championship game on December 3 and could be in line for a New Year’s Six Bowl spot depending on the results of the conference championship weekend.

Penn State is 2-0 all-time in games against Louisiana State.

Previously, the Nittany Lions defeated the Tigers in the 2010 Capital One Bowl (19-17) and the 1974 Orange Bowl (16-9).

Sporting News (Bill Bender) Citrus Bowl vs. Mississippi: This week marks the second episode that Bender has projected a matchup between the Nittany Lions and Mississippi at the Citrus Bowl.

Three weeks ago, Bender had led Penn State west to the Rose Bowl. He now has a meeting between Michigan and Oregon in the bowl in Pasadena.

Like others, he pushed Tennessee into the New Year’s Six deliberations this week as he predicted the Volunteers will pull Tulane into the Cotton Bowl.

He also set Alabama and Clemson for the Orange Bowl, once a postseason opportunity for the Nittany Lions.

Action Network (Brett McMurphy) Citrus Bowl vs Mississippi: Last week, McMurphy had Penn State against Central Florida in the New Year’s Six Cotton Bowl.

This week he traded the Nittany Lions and the Golden Knights for Tulane and Tennessee. McMurphy also earmarked Alabama and Clemson for the Orange Bowl.
