Publicly invited to a virtual informational meeting regarding the US Route 1 operating lane in the city of Orange

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) will host a virtual public information meeting regarding the proposed installation of an operational lane (bidirectional left turn lane). US Route 1 in the city of Orange on Thursday, December 15 at 7 p.m. The meeting will take place on Zoom and registration is required. A question-and-answer (Q&A) session follows immediately after the presentation. The presentation will be recorded. The virtual public information meeting will be held to give the public and local community an opportunity to comment or ask questions about the proposed project.

It is the purpose of the project Providing a medium two-way left turn lane on US Route 1 from the Milford city limits to near Lambert Road to allow for better traffic flow, reduce accidents and improve business access.

The project also includes the rehabilitation of Bridge #1881 (Culvert) that carries US Route 1 over the Indian River and improvements to the existing drainage system within the project boundaries.

there are right-of-way impacts related to the proposed improvements, including partial takeovers and easements to allow installation of the middle two-way left-turn lane.

Construction is expected to begin in Spring 2024, pending the availability of funding, acquisition of rights of way and approval of permits. Estimated construction costs for this project are approximately US$15-20 million. This project is expected to be implemented with eighty percent (80%) federal funds and twenty percent (20%) state funds. The project is marked as State Project No. 0106-0108.

Language support is provided to the public free of charge and efforts are made to respond to requests for support in a timely manner.

This meeting will also be live streamed on the CTDOT YouTube channel and no registration is required. Non-English subtitles will be available on Zoom and YouTube. The recording will also be posted immediately after the meeting on the CTDOT Virtual Public Gatherings List at portal.ct.gov/ctdotVPIMarchive.
